LEKKER BAR AND BRAAI
Enjoy Delicious home cooked meals while we keep your spirits up at the Lekker Bar
The Lekker Bar and Braai
Lekker is the Afrikaans word word for awesome, cool, fun, great or sweet! It is probably one of the most used words in South Africa, and we find it appropriate for the name of our bar. It is the center piece the main lodge. The bar itself is a massive horseshoe which allows guests to chat about their days adventures and meet new friends while sipping on tropical cocktails. We have a full collection of beverages to keep your spirits up as well as fun natural juices and smoothies for the kids.
South African BBQ
Braai is a South African word for BBQ. South Africans pride themselves on their culinary skills on the grill. Rafiki embraces that cultural heritage with some wonderfully spiced dishes. We also incorporate local Costa Rican dishes on the menu. Our 16 year experience of home cooked meals inspired by a variety of chefs through the years are refined, filling and delicious. Even if you have a plant diet, we will keep your energy levels primed for adventure. Rafiki includes all meals with lodging from dinner on your first day to breakfast on the day of departure.
Coffee and tea is served at 6:00am, so you enjoy the birds at the feeder. Breakfast typically starts at 7:00am. We offer several options for breakfast with fresh fruit in the morning, although we can be flexible for those needs to get on the road.
Lunch is served from 11:00 am to 3:00pm if you are not on tour. Guests arriving before lunch on the first day are welcome to take advantage of the "a la carte" menu. This goes for those that just don't want to leave that last day! Most guests are on tour during this hour, meals are including in both the aqua hike and the rafting trip. Horseback riders do have lunch in the lodge and you are welcome to choose anything off of the menu or choose the "daily special".
Dinner is where the magic happens. It starts off with a fresh salad or home made soup. You will then have a choice of 3 entrees that change every night. The speciality is of course the grilled meats, but we always a have vegetarian option available. Finally, for all the sweet teeth out there, we serve a freshly baked dessert. Dinner is typically served at 7:00PM, but on the busy nights there will be an option to choose an early or a later seating... We try to get dinner order in to the kitchen as soon as possible, so be surprised if the host asks your order in the middle of the day!
